Ptillen - Rain Faerie

Small Watercolour Painting
Ptillen - Rain Faerie

“The rain faerie is surrounded by the thermals of the changing season. She heralds the spring rain that awakens nature’s new growth indicated by the soft green shades. Movement is conveyed in the swirling background, the flying strands of her hair and billowing folds of her tunic.

The painting was intended to depict the gently swirling winds that accompany the first drops of a welcome shower.”

Ptillen: Rain Faerie

Ptillen is a rain faerie. Her fragile features are as delicate as the flowers she tends and her fair hair streams behind her in ribbons of the palest gold. A soft sap-green silk garment drapes her tiny form. Butterfly wings mirror a rose’s lilac pallet.

After the rain, the rose opens to reveal its violet depths. A baby is born. Ptillen, who has gone about the nurturing task of bringing the rain, peers into depths, to reassure herself that her ward is flourishing. A plump, contented baby gurgles up at her in delighted response.

Ptillen has brought this tiny fairy a rainbow-trimmed play-thing. She knows that all too soon the small wings will strengthen and unfold, and her baby ward will take his first attempted flight into the swirling up-draught.
